How you doodling?

I have been a busy bee here creatively at Ryan James HQ! I'm almost done on a few commissions and then it's time to finish up a few of my personal paintings that are literally staring at me whilst I write this. I've also been doing Inktober, which if you've not heard about it is an artistic challenge whereby you do an ink drawing every day for the month of October. I am already a few scribbles behind but because I don't generally work in ink it's actually given me a few ideas for paintings too. I'm up for any art challenge that I stumble across. I started a 30 day drawing challenge with the SCC ( Swansea comic collective ) ages ago but I never finished it. I may dig that up to give it another go in the new year. I love doing things like this for the same reason I love commissions, you end up drawing things that you'd never have come up with on your own. I've gotten so many ideas for my personal work through this and I am fully enjoying all the new technique's I'm picking up. Speaking of which, I'm off to an art class tomorrow taught by the very talented Kerry Evans and she is going to show us how to paint up wooden boxes. Her's are fabulous and I've admired them for a while! She works in a traditional tattooist style which I love and I am definitely drawing inspiration from her. I am going to paint one of my girls one on a giant storage box and if it comes out the way I hope it will then it will be another string to my bow. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

I also purchased the dylusions art journal with the thicker card stock on it and I have to say that it is WONDERFUL! You do still have to gesso the crap out of the pages but because I work in layers I knew I'd have to do that anyway but it holds SO much paint. I've literally done double sided acrylic paints with markers and everything in between and it hasn't bled through or gone all crappy. I have managed to get paint on a few of the pages I wasn't trying to get them on but hey ho that's the fun of working in this way. I definitely recommend that you get yourself one of these if you like working in wet media. I also got a few little journals because I am off on holidays soon. I can't wait to sit by the pool and do SOD ALL! The last holiday I went on I ended up in a haunted cottage, not good for psychic boy here, and I swear if there is a spirit anywhere near me on this holiday I am going to kick off. I will be sat by the pool with a tin foil hat on!! lol.

I am also VERY near the end of my fiction novel “Weavers Light”. I have begun editing chapter 12 yesterday so the end is FINALLY in sight. There are 17 chapters in all and I've managed to discipline myself enough over the last month or so to really make some headway on getting it done. This book has taken FOREVER to get where it is. I am desperately hoping that I have not written a shit sandwich but you never know! I have more fictional books to work on that will just have to be bookmarked for next year because my work load has increased dramatically. I really have had to make use of my spare time this year and I can only see more work ahead of me. It's all fun dont get me wrong but I have had to get used to fitting in a lot. One of the things I am excited about is that I have decided to do an Art Vlog. I am going to document my creative process on camera and pass along some of the things I have picked up along the way. I need a minute to get to grips with adobe premier plus I have a few more bits and pieces to buy but after that I am done and soon you shall be nattering with me face to face!

If that wasn't enough I am also roping in a friend to help me set up my own little studio in my man cave. I have a few songs now that are almost ready to record and I want to share them on my sound cloud. Only piano pieces but I am hoping to get that sorted by Christmas! I have to apologise once again for taking so long to chat to you but as you can tell I have been running around like a headless chicken! Don't forget if you want a commission in time for christmas NOW is the time to say! Please dont leave it until 2 weeks before because I might not have the time to do it.

Thank you for tuning in again!

Big Love,
